ABOUT ALEA FOUNDATION

ALEA FOUNDATION

The ALEA Foundation supports projects that make the world a better place. In addition to nature conservation and botany, the foundation places a particular emphasis on education. A concrete expression of this commitment is the ALEA School — a bilingual high school whose mission is to work with educational partners from the fields of science, nature education, and culture, as well as in cooperation with international partner schools, to help young people develop into global citizens and socially engaged individuals.

FOUNDER AND SPONSOR

As the CEO and owner of STRAUSS, Henning has transformed his family’s business into Europe’s leading workwear brand—and into a global player in sports sponsorship.

In May 2026, Henning Strauss was awarded an honorary doctorate from the prestigious Pepperdine University in California—his alma mater—in recognition of his pioneering entrepreneurial work. The award also recognises the exemplary social commitment of the 49-year-old, which is shaped by the Pepperdine maxim “For Greater Purpose”.

With ALEA SCHOOL, he aims to provide young people from the region with access to the same global education, mindset, and opportunities he received as a
student himself.

„At ALEA SCHOOL, the next generation of global citizens is learning to take reponsibility—for people and the planet. Our world needs this mindset more
than ever.“ – ALEA school board Henning Strauss

Education is the most effective tool for building a better future.
And it is also the most sustainable form of corporate responsibility.

INDEPENDENTLY RUN SECONDARY SCHOOL WITH AN INTERNATIONAL PROFILE

ALEA SCHOOL combines the best of both worlds: the Hessian state curriculum with the International Baccalaureate framework.

Students can graduate with the IB Diploma Programme and move confidently into universities and careers around the world. Core courses and complemented by electives that provide students with opportunities for project-based learning and personal passions.

Interdisciplinary projects connect the dots across the curriculum, engaging students in hands-on projects that foster responsibility, independent learning, and lifelong critical thinking.

INSPIRED FOR LIFE

“Inspired for Life” is more than a motto. It is our promise to give young people at ALEA SCHOOL exciting experiences that spark their curiosity for life and learning.

Extracurricular activities like horseback riding, golf, gardening, cooking, and yoga offer one source of inspiration and promote skills students can rely on for a lifetime.

The campus itself is another source of inspiration: ALEA SCHOOL is nestled in the heart of the wondrous Spessart, one of Europe’s largest contiguous areas of mixed deciduous forest. The lush green environment is the trellis on which the curriculum and students grow toward the sun. The flora and fauna of the forest surround the school, providing a living textbook in which every tree, stream, and creature tell a story and inspire discovery.

ALEA SCHOOL CAMPUS

– Click on the numbers for more information –

The ALEA SCHOOL campus is an extension of ALEA Park, and the green signature of the oasis is reflected in the structure’s design language. Nature and botany shape the layout, materials, and atmosphere. The idea is down-to-earth: the wonders of nature interwoven throughout campus spark curiosity and inspire learning.
A one-off grant will ensure the provision and procurement of the necessary digital and spatial infrastructure for the ALEA SCHOOL campus.

This includes the provision of iPads for 200 students at a unit cost of $800,
12 smartboards for all classrooms at $5,000 each, or alternatively the full furnishing of complete classrooms at $20,000 per unit.

Educational Partners

ALEA SCHOOL X SENCKENBERG NATURE RESEARCH

Together with leading partners from the worlds of science and nature education, ALEA SCHOOL develops innovative learning
formats for the next generation. The aim is to connect students early on with cutting-edge research, biodiversity, environmental protection, and sustainable development. ALEA SCHOOL is an educational partner of both the renowned Senckenberg Society for Nature Research and the Frankfurt Palm House. These partnerships enable scientists to come into the classrooms and students to take field trips to research sites. On the Parkallee campus, new learning spaces such as a Dinotorium and a Palm House will bring science to life in three dimensions.

A one-off grant of $500,000 is being provided for the implementation, the care of the plants and the maintenance of the new learning spaces.

ALEA SCHOOL X ST LEONARDS SCHOOL

In partnership with St Leonards School in Scotland—one of Europe’s most renowned International Baccalaureate schools—
ALEA SCHOOL is building a best-in-class IB programme. Over a three-year period (2026–2028), ALEA SCHOOL will receive targeted support in curriculum design, teacher development, school management, and international partnerships.

A one-off grant of £450,000 ensures that this collaboration works toward the school’s long-term objectives: anchoring top-tier educational standards, providing professional growth for the school’s educators, and sharpening ALEA SCHOOL’s international profile.

ALEA ARENA

In addition to regular physical education classes, the ALEA Arena hosts inhouse tournaments in which the four school buildings compete against each other. The ALEA SCHOOL Cup also welcomes delegations from international partner schools in California and Scotland to engage in intercultural exchange through play.

A one-off grant of $200,000 will ensure that sports equipment and facilities can be provided and procured as required.

DINOTORIUM

The Dinotorium is an auditorium, lecture hall, theater, and on special occasions, a cinema. This is where the student parliament meets, and weekly student assemblies are held in the Dinotorium – in the future, graduation ceremonies will also take place there.

The cost of equipping the Dinotorium, including a high-quality replica of a pteranodon, amounts to $300,000.

DŌJŌ

ALEA SCHOOL is international at its core. Its goal is to help students navigate different cultures, perspectives, and ways of thinking from an early age. Cultural learning spaces are built into the school concept and aligned with the IB philosophy, which values academic excellence as much as social and emotional strength. On the new Parkallee campus, spaces such as a dōjō create room for international encounters and personal growth— shaping young people who can move with ease between worlds.

According to Japanese tradition, the dōjō is a sacred place where martial arts such as karate, judo, or aikido are taught. At the same time, it represents a space for concentration, discipline, and personal development. In the daily life of ALEA SCHOOL, the dōjō becomes a place where students develop physical and mental strength. The goal is to instill values such as respect, self-discipline, perseverance, and mutual appreciation in a lasting way. Students also can achieve the highest rank in karate—the black belt.

A one-time grant of $250,000 is being provided for the construction and maintenance of the dōjō.

PALM HOUSE

The dream of the Orber Palmengarten is coming true: in close collaboration with experts from the original Frankfurt location, the palm house is being designed in the center of the Campus Parkallee.

The cost of furnishing the palm house with rare botanical specimens amounts to $300,000.

STUDIO & JAM SPACE

Podcasting, producing their own rap songs, composing stage music for the Schlaufuchs Theater: in the studio, ALEA students can develop their narrative and musical talents. The adjoining jam space with drums, bass, electric guitars, etc. serves as both a band lounge and a youth club.

The cost of fitting out and equipping the studio and the adjoining rehearsal room amounts to $120,000.

COLLEGE COUNCIL

From ALEA SCHOOL to the world: After the IB diploma comes a university career. The College Counsel at the Parkallee campus will be a permanent place where ALEA Schlaufüchse can receive regular advice on choosing the right university and career. Renowned universities from all over the world will also present themselves here.

A one-off donation of $100,000 will ensure that the required number of books can be provided for the Parkallee campus.

CAMPUS GARDEN

Outdoor stage, multi-sport court, spacious green areas, perfect park view: the inner courtyard of the campus ensemble is also the ALEA schoolyard – and an event space for career fairs and summer festivals.

A grant of $75,000 will ensure that the necessary outdoor sports equipment can be purchased.

Scholarship framework conditions

In principle, anyone can apply for a scholarship. The award committee will take various criteria into account when selecting the scholarship holders: First and foremost, the economic eligibility of an applicant family. This is based on the average household income (approx. €70,000) in the Main-Kinzig district and the applicant confirms that they have a lower household income. Voluntary commitment, special achievements or a particularly convincing application are also taken into account.

When applying for a scholarship, applicants must provide basic information, a letter of motivation and a letter of recommendation from a (class) teacher. After submission, the awarding committee will review the application and contact the applicants regarding the next steps.

At the present moment, two scholarship programs have already been confirmed.

  1. The Norbert Strauss partial scholarship
    5x per year
Covers €400 of the school fees
  2. The Bad Orb full scholarship
    2x per year
    Covers the entire school fees

Further scholarship programs are currently being developed.

There will be both full and partial scholarships. Depending on the type of scholarship, either all or part of the school fees will be covered by the scholarship. Both scholarship models cover tuition fees up to the 10th grade to the extent indicated.
